Melanoma
Malignant melanoma develops from melanocytes, the cells that contain pigment. Melanomas may appear to be to innocuous moles or develop from them. About a quarter of all melanoma cases develop from moles. Melanoma usually results from over-exposure to UV light in individuals lacking an abundance of skin pigment.
While melanoma is not the most common form of skin cancer, it is the most deadly. Prevention is paramount, with sunscreen and minimal exposure to UV light being the best ways to reduce risk.
